LOW-VISCOSITY OILS FOR MODERN ICEs

The industry's demands and specifications for motor oils are constantly increasing. In line with tightening of environmental standards regulating the emission of harmful substances in the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines (ICEs), automobile manufacturers continually improve their ICE to reduce fuel consumption ever further, concurrently incorporating more sophisticated exhaust treatment technologies. This translates into the need for new grades of engine oils that can meet the new, higher standards. (SAE) 0W-20, 5W-20, as well as 0W-30 and 5W-30 are new, synthetic-base, low-viscosity oils with a mix of custom-formulated additives.

The demand for lower viscosity in motor oils is determined by the design of modern powertrains. Engines are becoming smaller and lighter, while their power-to-capacity ratio is increasing significantly due to the continued development of turbocharging, the digital control of fuel injection systems and other supply functions. Modern engines employ many advanced technologies which enable the tolerance allowance in machine moving parts and the clearance allowance in friction pairs to be minimized. Close collaboration is a key prerequisite to success for this difficult process, since a motor oil must accord with the specifications and design particulars of the new powertrain in order to provide it with good protection and meet the required maintenance interval and environmental standards.

To reduce the total cost of ownership for drivers, car manufacturers are constantly increasing the maintenance intervals. Because of this, oil manufacturers are continually improving their lubricant formulations. This is a complex, time-consuming and painstaking process resulting in optimization of the chemical composition of the base oil and improvement of the formula of the additive mix that is dissolved in it.

Chemical engineers from the Korean SIT Corporation LLC, which owns the MIRAX brand, have developed an original motor oil formula. MIRAX motor oils feature an extended service life and were designed for the latest generation of engines. Employing the most advanced base oils and additive mixes from top suppliers, our chemical engineers have done more than just create top-class motor oils that meet the latest specifications and requirements – they have improved the standard formula taking a big step in the technological advancement of ICE lubricants and oils.

Using their advanced knowledge and extensive experience in designing and developing oils and lubricants, the company's chemical engineers developed a unique anti-oxidant complex, the AntiOX. AntiOX ensures stability in the standard additive mix while also improving oil quality and slowing down its oxidation rate over the duration of its active use in the working engine.

AntiOX developers took on the challenge to successfully combine the antioxidant with the rest of the components in the additive mix.
